Rich's gaze flicked away from Chris and settled on her. He stared at her for a long time, measuring her words. Finally he laughed. She didn't like the sound of that laugh. "I'm holding a gun, threatening to kill you, and still you're giving me orders. You always were a gutsy broad, D.J. I hated that about you. I still do. But in this case you're right. I could care less who you screw. I know what a cold little fish you are. If McCall here thinks you were good, who am I to argue? You'll both be dead soon enough, and no one will be the wiser."
She ignored the insults and the threats in an effort to keep him talking. "How did you find us?"
"I made it my business a long time ago to know everything about you and your dad. Information is power. Once, when we were up here hunting, your dad got drunk and told me all about his dead wife and the cabin. I checked the place out in case I ever needed to hide somewhere. When you disappeared last night I knew where I'd find you in the morning."
"What happened to your thug friends?"
"I left them at the cabin. I've found murder is best accomplished on your own. The fewer witnesses, the better."
D.J.'s heart gave a stutter at his cold-blooded statement. She'd been married to this man. Admittedly, the marriage had been a mistake, but she'd once hoped to make a future with him. Had he changed so much over the past year? Or had she been too preoccupied with her career and her problems to see the truth? There was so much going on here she didn't understand. "Murder, Rich?
